In this musical theater scene study class you will be assigned a scene partner and a scene from a new musical.  You will fully explore your character and work on a scene and a song.  It will focus specifically on the acting challenges particular to musical theater. This class will culminate in a final presentation with a major musical theater agent present.

NEW: Every duet/scene assigned will come from a new musical in development.  Some of the works presented may be written specifically for this class to workshop.  Each pair of actors will receive a one hour coaching from the writers of their piece as part of this class.  The writers reserve the right to make revisions to the pieces based on what they hear and implement them for the next class.  Writing teams will be announced shortly and will include writers featured on and off Broadway and at NAMT, NYMF, BMI, and more.

Jamibeth Margolis has been casting in NYC for 20 years.  She runs her own casting office and also works as a stage director.  She previously served as casting director for many of Broadway’s longest running shows such as CATS, LES MISERABLES, MISS SAIGON and more.  Jamibeth is currently casting many readings, workshops, and recordings of new musicals and plays, regional theater, and including the new musical drama, WARSAW, which is currently being developed for a commercial run. Currently casting: SISTAS (Off Broadway), THIS ONE'S FOR THE GIRLS (Off Broadway), REBEL, REBEL: THE MANY LIVES OF DAVID BOWIE (Tour), BURLESQUE TO BROADWAY (Tour), casting director for the National Yiddish Theatre and other various festival plays and musicals around NYC.  B.A.Drama/Directing from Ithaca College.  Adjunct professor at Pace University. 

Andrew Wheeler (Broadway: Waitress, Shuffle Along) is a musical director, Broadway accompanist, vocal technician and coach. Broadway: Waitress, Shuffle Along. Off-Broadway: Amerike-The Golden Land, Golden Bride (NYTF; Drama Desk Nom., Outstanding Revival), Urinetown (Araca), Naked Boys Singing, NEWSical (Theatre Row), Burlesque to Broadway (Tour). TV: Monica's Mixing Bowl (pilot, w/ John Tartaglia). NYC: NYU, CAP21, NYMF Festival (8+ productions), as well as concerts/developmental works with Samantha Saltzman (Matilda), Beth Leavel, Lisa Howard, James Monroe Iglehart, BD Wong, Mary Catherine Burke, among others. Currently music supervisor for Music City in development with JT Harding (five #1 Billboard Hits). Selected Regional: Breath and Imagination (w/ TV's Travis Pratt & Cheryl Freeman), Sweeney Todd (Playmaker's Rep.); Fiddler… (w/ Broadway’s Bill Nolte), Sweeney Todd, Legally Blonde, JCS (CFRT). As a vocal technician and coach, Andrew’s clients have worked on Broadway, Off-Broadway and in National and International tours. Teaching Artist with Go-Broadway, AMTA, CAP21, Molloy College and Pace University. BFA NYU/Tisch.

This class is designed to prepare you for the many auditions where you will be asked to prepare sides and a song.  It will expand your repertoire.  It will expose you to new musical theater.  You will receive valuable coaching tips and suggestions. This is a class not to be missed!  Class size is limited to 12 students.

Class 1: Tuesday, January 16th 7pm-10pm 

Class 2: Tuesday, January 23rd from 7pm-10pm 

Class 3: Tuesday, January 30th from 7pm-10pm 

Class 4: Monday, February 5th from 7pm-10pm 

Class 5: Wednesday, February 7th from 7pm-10pm* (final presentations and feedback)

(*final class will have a major legit agent present)

Note: This class is 5 class sessions that includes 3 Tuesday nights and then one Monday and one Wednesday accommodate working writers’ schedules.
