2018-19 Playwrights Horizons Theatrical Fellowship Program
The Playwrights Horizons Theatrical Fellowship Program offers excellent practical experience in training for a career in the arts and affords an opportunity to learn from some of the top professionals in the American theater. Season-length fellowships are offered in:
New Works Lab Management
Because our fellows are fully integrated in the day-to-day life of the organization, a fellowship at Playwrights Horizons offers significantly marketable experience in one’s chosen field. We are proud of the fact that many alumni have gone on to become some of the most active directors, writers, composers, and arts administrators in the country. In addition, many current staff members are former fellows, including our artistic director, Tim Sanford.
Fellowships will begin in either August or September of 2018 and continue through the production season, concluding in June of 2019.
On average, the Costumes, Casting, Literary, New Works Lab Management, Marketing, and Digital Media Fellows work five days per week during normal business hours (10 AM – 6 PM). When involved with a show, Directing and Stage Management Fellows join the team for the six day rehearsal/performance schedule (usually Tuesday–Sunday). Fellowships in Musical Theater are part-time (two days per week).
Playwrights Horizons is pleased to offer a $40 daily stipend to help offset the cost of housing and other living expenses. All fellows also receive an unlimited monthly MetroCard. Other benefits include numerous free or discounted tickets to Broadway and Off-Broadway theaters.
Thanks in part to generous grants from the New York Community Trust’s Van Lier Fund and Tiger Baron Foundation, we are pleased to offer a limited number of $10,000 scholarships to outstanding applicants of color during the 2018-19 Season. Note that these scholarship funds will be awarded in addition to the fellowship stipend and monthly MetroCard.
