New York Theatre Workshop celebrated the opening of Mary Jane, a new drama by Pulitzer Prize finalist Amy Herzog with direction by two-time Obie winner Anne Kauffman, September 25. The play takes place over a rain-drenched summer in New York City and follows a single mother who is caring for a chronically sick child.
In the title role is Tony and Emmy nominee Carrie Coon, who is joined by Liza Colón-Zayas, Danaya Esperanza, Susan Pourfar, and Brenda Wehle, who play the various women orbiting her while she attempts to navigate her difficult life.

The New York premiere began performances September 6 and, following an extension announcement, will now continue through October 29.

Mary Jane features scenic design by Laura Jellinek (The Light Years), costume design by Emily Rebholz (Dear Evan Hansen), lighting design by Japhy Weideman (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), and sound design by Leah Gelpe (Sundown, Yellow Moon). Lisa Chernoff (Oslo) is the stage manager.
Mary Jane is produced in association with Yale Repertory Theatre, where it was commissioned and received its world premiere in April.
