Kristin Chenoweth will star in a new TV pilot just acquired by ABC.

The single-camera comedy, titled The Real Fairy Godmother,comes from executive producers by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, according to Deadline. It tells the story of a self-centered housewife who learns she is the descendant of a long line of Fairy Godmothers and must learn to put her altruistic legacy to good use.

Zadan and Meron are best known to the theatre community as the executive producers and driving forces behind NBC’s live musical events, including The Sound of Music, Peter Pan, The Wiz and last year’s Hairspray, which featured Chenoweth as Velma Von Tussle.

Chenoweth has been featured in Starz’s original series American Gods as Easter and in Pushing Daisies, but The Real Fairy Godmother sees the Tony winner leading the pilot. Writer Alan Zachary and Michael Weiner are also known to the Broadway community as the composer-lyricists of Broadway’s First Date, which starred Krysta Rodriguez and Zachary Levi.

The Real Fairy Godmother boasts showrunners Cathy Yuspa and Josh Goldsmith. Zadan and Meron executive produce alongside Goldsmith Yuspa Productions. Chenoweth will also produce.
