Scheduled for the first evening are performances of Margarete, in which Janek Turkowski attempts to reconstruct the portrait of an unknown woman he discovered on the reels of old film found in a North German market (7:15 PM in The Public: Classroom); After, a follow-up piece from the Obie-winning Andrew Schneider and his team blending high-octane light and sound effects with deft physical performance (7 PM in The Public’s Martinson Hall); and lip sync maestro and intrepid drag performer Dickie Beau’s Hamlet-inspired solo piece Re-Remember Me (8 PM in The Public’s Newman Theater).

All three shows will be performed on various additional dates during the festival through January 14.

The 2018 lineup also features an opera adaptation of Octavia E. Butler’s post-apocalyptic novel Parable of the Sower, a contemporary take on Antigone from Cuba’s Teatro El Público, and offerings from New Yorker staff writer Adam Gopnik, Jessica Blank, Erik Jensen, David Cale, and Ayesha Jordan and Charlotte Brathwaite. UTR 2018 also includes works by Nature Theater of Oklahoma and EnKnapGroup; Satoshi Miyagi; Motus; Roger Guenveur Smith and CalArts Center for New Performance; and Split Britches.

The festival also includes the return of Under the Radar + Joe’s Pub: In Concert performances; and the Under the Radar Professional Symposium. Performances are at the Public Theater and NYU Skirball Center.
