As part of Foreigner’s 40th anniversary celebration, the British-American rock band has announced that it will premiere a brand-new musical titled Jukebox Hero in summer 2028 with aims for Broadway. The coming-of-age tale will feature Foreigner’s music and a book by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais, the writing duo behind the musical Billy, which starred Michael Crawford, as well as the films The Commitments and Across the Universe.

Co-presented by Annerin Theatricals and Foreigner, Jukebox Hero is set to debut in Calgary in Canada in next summer. The show will feature 16 popular Foreigner songs, including “I Want To Know What Love Is,“ “Cold As Ice,“ “Waiting For A Girl Like You,“ “Hot Blooded,“ “Jukebox Hero,“ and “Urgent.“

Jeff Parry, founder and CEO of Annerin Productions, said in a statement that the musical is potentially “destined for Broadway.“

Performances are scheduled for August 10–12, 2018, at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium, to be followed by a run at the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium in Edmonton August 16–19, 2018.

In Jukebox Hero, set in Blaydon, Pennsylvania, a rust-belt town is struggling after the closure of its biggest factory. A demoralized unemployed workforce seeks the help of its most famous son: music superstar Ryan. “But returning to Blaydon doesn’t just mean revisiting a town where he’s become a stranger,“ read production notes, “it means confronting the ghosts of his past.“

“I never could have imagined when I set out to create Foreigner 40 years ago, that we’d still be touring around the world and performing the music we love all these years later,” says founding member and lead guitarist Mick Jones. “I am so proud that these songs will now be re-interpreted for stage, and am honored by the team that is helping bring this music to life. I can’t express the gratitude I feel when fans share stories of how our songs have been woven into their milestones and memories over the years.”

Tickets are now available at Jukeboxheromusical.com.
