Stage and screen star Kathleen Turner, last on Broadway in High, plays God in George Street Playhouse's production of David Javerbaum's An Act of God, which begins performances November 28 at the New Jersey venue.
Stephen DeRosa (Into the Woods, GSP’s Sylvia) and Jim Walton (She Loves Me, GSP’s The Fabulous Lipitones) portray the archangels Michael and Gabriel, respectively, who help God answer many of the deepest (and not-so-deep) questions that have plagued mankind since Creation.
Artistic Director David Saint directs the limited run, which continues through December 23.
“We could not be more thrilled to have one of the most revered film and Broadway stars of our time playing God,” said Saint in an earlier statement. “God has a lot to say in this incredibly funny modern comedy, and Ms. Turner has just the right amount of chutzpah to bring us Her words.”
An Act of God is based on the critically acclaimed book The Last Testament: A Memoir by God, “written by God and transcribed by David Javerbaum.” Javerbaum is a 13-time Emmy Award winner for his work as a head writer and executive producer for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
The play premiered on Broadway May 7, 2015, starring Jim Parsons, and ran through August 2, 2015. It played a return engagement on Broadway in 2016 starring Sean Hayes.
