Hamilton actor Daniel J. Watts returns to the New York stage with the latest incarnation of The Jam: Only Child, his evening of music, dance and spoken word, being presented February 19 at Joe’s Pub inside the Public Theater in New York City.
The Jam pays homage to Watts’ great-grandmother who, after making jam from scratch, would share with others what she was unable to consume herself. Watts says The Jam is his continuation of that legacy. The show debuted in summer 2017 as The Jam: Love Terrorists—A Benefit for Orlando in the Marlin Room of Webster Hall.
“Each time I put together a new edition of The Jam, it is inspired by what is happening in the world, in my world, or in my life,” said the artist and activist. “This Jam has a coming-of-age feel. It involves journeying through the experiences that have shaped my perceptions and influenced my decision-making, allowing me to take stock of what I need to hold on to and what I can afford to let go.”
Watts has appeared on Broadway seven times, including productions of In the Heights, Memphis, After Midnight, The Little Mermaid, The Color Purple, and Motown the Musical. He appears in TBS’ upcoming The Last O.G.
Tickets for the Joe’s Pub concert cost $20–$30 and can be ordered here. Tickets at the door will cost $25-35. Joe’s Pub is located inside the Public Theater complex at 425 Lafayette Street in Manhattan.
