A new musical based on the life and career of Frank Sinatra is in the works, with a premiere currently scheduled for 2020. Emmy winner Danny Strong will pen the book to the show (currently titled Sinatra the Musical), which will feature the songs of the legendary crooner.

Strong, an Emmy winner for HBO’s Game Change, was recently announced to pen the screenplay for Disney’s upcoming remake of Oliver!; additionally, his new adaptation of Chess will premiere at the Kennedy Center in February.

“It is an honor to get to write a musical about one of the biggest icons of the 20th century,” Strong said in a statement. “Sinatra is one of the great talents of all time and his fascinating and powerful story will make for a terrific stage musical.”

The Ambassador Theatre Group will produce with Stewart Till, Edward Walson, and Frank Sinatra Enterprises.

While Sinatra’s life story has not yet unfolded on the Broadway stage, his music certainly has; Twyla Tharp’s Come Fly Away, centered around Sinatra’s catalog, played Broadway in 2010. Sinatra himself played a concert at the Uris Theatre (now the Gershwin) alongside Count Basie and Ella Fitzgerald for 16 performances only in 1975.
