Classic Arts News Casting Announced for Matthew Bourne’s National Tour of The Red Shoes The production will play Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., Charlotte, and New York’s City Center this fall.

Matthew Bourne’s Olivier-winning The Red Shoes is set to come across the pond to the U.S. for a four-city national tour.

Beginning in Los Angeles at the Ahmanson Theatre September 15, the tour then continues on to Washington, D.C.’s Kennedy Center, Blumenthal Performing Arts in Charlotte, North Carolina, and New York’s City Center.

The tour will feature the original cast, seen in a holiday engagement in 2016. Ashley Shaw (who originated the role) Cordelia Braithwaite will star as Victoria Page, the girl who dreams of being a great dancer. (For the run at City Center only, New York City Ballet principal dancer Sara Mearns will debut in the role.) Boris Lermontov will be played by Sam Archer with Jack Jones stepping in to the part at certain performances.

Nominated for his second National Dance Award last year, Dominic North will play Julian Craster, with American Ballet Theatre principal Marcelo Gomes also taking on the role at certain performances.

Dancers Michela Meazza, Anjali Mehra, and Nicole Kabera round out the principal cast as well as Liam Mower, Danny Reubens, and Will Bozier.

Glenn Graham and Leon Moran will share the role of Lermontov Company choreographer Grischa Ljubov.

The rest of the Red Shoes cast includes Steph Billers, Jackson Fisch, Joshua Harriette, Daisy May Kemp, Phil King, Dominic Lamb, Katrina Lyndon, Kate Lyons, Andrew Monaghan, Joe Walkling, Katie Webb, and Seren Williams.

Bourne will collaborate with New Adventure Associate Artists scenic and costume designer Lez Brotherston, lighting designer Paule Constable, and Paul Groothuis. Terry Davies has arranged a new score using the music of Bernard Herrmann.

A story that has “inspired generations of dancers with its tale of obsession, possession, and one girl’s dream to be the greatest dancer in the world,” The Red Shoes is the latest of Bourne’s interpretations of classics to hit the New York stage.
